Cricket Controversies Give More than Worse Feeling

  • Campbell run out controversy 26 April 1999: Campbell was a batsman of West Indies and a match was going on with Australia. The batsman was on the non-striker end and was running for a single. The Australian bowler intentionally came in between and Campbell fell on the pitch in the middle of the run. He was given out but the audience didn’t accept this run out and fans started throwing bottles on the ground and on the Australian players. The match was halted by this action.
  • Rahul Sharma & Wayne Parnell party incident: Rahul Sharma was the Indian leg spinner and Wayne Parnell was South African all-rounder. During the season of IPL they both were found in a night party consuming drugs. The players denied the fact that they consumed drugs but their medical tests made it clear that they were consuming drugs. They were arrested by the police and after this they both were banned from IPL for lifetime.
  • Restriction on RPS and MI: In the year 2017, two IPL teams Rising Pune Super Giants and Mumbai Indians were banned from playing in Maharashtra. In the year 2017 there was lack of water in the whole state of Maharashtra and for playing a match, tones of water was wasted on the ground. Taking this problem into account the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) banned the teams from playing in Maharashtra.
  • AB de Villiers catch out given not out: In a match between India and South Africa in the year 2007 during the 3rd ODI match AB de Villiers was on the crease and the bowler was Zaheer Khan. Zaheer Khan throws a straight delivery and de Villiers bat’s edge hit the ball and the ball was catch by Sachin Tendulkar. Even after the straight away catch out umpire Aleem Dar gave him not out and even AB de Villiers didn’t admit that he was out.
  • Michael Hussey Not out case: In a match between India and Australia Hussey was the batsman and the bowler was Suresh Raina. When Raina bowled MS Dhoni stumped Michael Hussey. The decision was left on the third umpire. Although the replay made it clear that Hussey was in the safe zone and just inside the crease but the third umpire screened “Out”. The batsman was walking towards the pavilion and Indian team was celebrating as there is nothing they can do about it. But the on the field umpire called hussy back and signalled not out. The Indian Skipper MS Dhoni went to have chat with the umpire that how can you turn the decision of the 3rd It was later told that the 3rd umpire touched the wrong button.
