No Slipping Again with FRP handrails

Fiber Reinforced Plastic handrails, or FRP handrails, are popular in the industrial or commercial industry. Widely used in railing systems such as stair rails, platform/walkway rails and guardrails, they are much more preferred than metallic, wood, steel or aluminum handrails. FRP handrails are made from pultruded fiber glass and molded thermoplastic connectors.

They are available as custom made handrails, and are also used as safety barriers, shopping fittings and structures in extreme environments such as mining industries, oil and gas industries, chemical plants and electric substations. The major advantagesof FRP handrails over traditional materials are listed below as follows.

High corrosion resistance

FRP handrails are resistant to extreme weather such as water, moisture and sunlight. On the other hand, materials like wood, steel, aluminum, carbon steel or metal handrails corrode easily. Fiberglass is non-corrosive to chemicals, which prevents it from rusting. They also resist gas fumes, UV rays, spills, splash and submersion. They do not require galvanization or cathodic protection to last longer, and don’t deform under pressure. The longer shelf life thus reduces maintenance costs to a large extent as compared to handrails made from traditional materials.

Non-sparking and non-slip

Fiberglass handrails can be installed in hazardous or combustible environments such as mining industries, oil and gas industries, chemical industries or electric substations. Handrails made from traditional materials tend to spark and start a fire in sensitive conditions, but FRP handrails are fire retardant, and don’t react to combustible gases such as hydrogen. They don’t spark and are completely safe for use in industries dealing with hazardous elements. FRP handrails and other products have a gritted surface as well, which makes them easy to grip and totally slip-proof.

Low installation costs

FRP handrails are lightweight which makes them preferable for easy transportation, delivery, assembly and installation. Installation requires only simple tools and doesn’t need welding, cutting and heavy lifting. Moreover, FRP handrails do not require much maintenance as they do not corrode, rust or fade. They don’t need to be painted, galvanized or replaced. FRP handrails also have UV inhibitors, which protect them from harmful UV rays. This cuts down on long-term costs to a great extent.

Low thermal conductivity and Magneticity

FRP handrails have non-magnetic properties, which makes them safe in sensitive installations. On the other hand, steel or metal handrails are magnetic in nature which make them unsuitable for such applications. FRP handrails are non-conductive in nature and are safe even in electric substations. They don’t allow the flow of current, which keeps you safe from electric shocks.

Impact resistant

FRP handrails are both strong and flexible, with excellent load bearing capabilities. They have a high impact resistant that enables to maintain their shape even under light to moderate pressure. They can withstand repeated deflection without permanent deformation, and return to their original shape. On the other hand, steel or aluminum handrails get deformed under deflection and need extensive repair or replacement.

Therefore, FRP handrails is a safe and cost-effective option for your home or office. They come with the promise of safety, strength and low installation cost not compromising on strength. They come in various colors and will last you a long time, thus acing both in looks and performance.
